Abstract: 

I review and summarize ongoing work on the analysis of persistent topological structures in fluid flows.  Brief descriptions of new algorithms that are capable of handling situations of high complexity are given.  Some applications of the analysis technique -- which include combinatoric and structural characterizations of cavities, vortices, tracers, and magnetic field lines -- are also presented.
