STFC Introductory Summer School in Astronomy

Welcome to the STFC Introductory Summer School in Astronomy 2013, at the Queen Mary, University of London. The School is aimed at STFC-funded postgraduate students who are beginning PhD studies in astronomy and space science in autumn 2013. Our programme of lectures will provide a comprehensive overview of astrophysics topics from Solar System and planetary physics, through stars and galaxies, and on to cosmology. There will be sessions on PhD skills, outreach, and career planning. A wide range of social events will enable students to build networks with those working on similar topics throughout the UK.

For general enquiries about the Introductory School please contact David Burgess (email:, or telephone +44 20 7882 3461)

For STFC students attendance at the School is fully-funded, including travel and all meals, by STFC. The School will be held from Sunday 1st September - Friday 6th September 2013.
